This artwork aims to capture Jesus’s ultimate intention, to do the will of His Father.
His profound struggle in the Garden of Gethsemane is portrayed through his burdened, tearful visage in the darkness of night.
The extra cloth on his shoulder, tattered and torn, is symbolic of the burdens of the world.
This scene, symbolic of Jesus' final earthly days, particularly His atonement and the moment when he sought the Father’s assurance one last time declaring that He will do the Father’s will, was difficult for me.
It was hard for me to portray Jesus as so heavy-laden and sorrowful. Despite losing sleep over these worries, I persevered with the artwork.
It was initially intended to be named Gethsemane but the artwork found another name for itself,
‘The End of Suffering.’ Interestingly, while I document my creative process through screen recordings—despite my (supposed to be) muted microphone—one video inexplicably named itself 'The End of Suffering.'
This unexpected title perfectly aligned with the artwork's essence and emotional journey reaffirmed my choice.
It was such a tender mercy for me and enabled me to see the beauty in all the emotions of life.
It helped me see Jesus' suffering in the garden as a means to end ours, bringing a profound sense of hope and divine connection.
This experience, amidst my struggles, reminded me that God sees and understands even our smallest battles, providing solace and the reassurance that, in my journey and your journey, in all our anxieties- big or small, turning our will over to God is the end of suffering.
