The Story Of
You Are The Light
In “You Are The Light”, we find a narrative of enlightenment and enoblement, where Jesus, the light and life of the world, shares a moment of full presense with a child. Perhaps this child comes from very difficult circumstances and is troubled and confused with life. Jesus is telling this child a story about lilies asking her to consider her infinite worth, as seen through the eyes of the divine.
Jesus is sharing that the lily begins in dirt and mud and weeds and whatever else is mixed in the soil or in what shadows we might chance find our roots to grow.
And still, there is hope that a flower will bloom.
Where the brilliant white petals reflect the light of the sun, he is explaining to her that there are always two sides to a Lilly and the beauty in the light would not stand without the often muddied roots.
This scene is a testament to the patience, understanding, and nurturing that God offers each of us, recognizing and cultivating the light within each child, and by extension each of us. Jesus' gentle guidance serves as a powerful reminder that the light within us—our essence and spirit—is not defined by life's chaos or the shadows we might face.
The child, engaged in Jesus' presense and embracing his light, embodies the journey from confusion to wonder to the light of understanding. Through Jesus' eyes, she learns of her value, not as the world measures but as seen from a divine perspective.
"You Are The Light" is an invitation to see ourselves and others through the lens of unconditional love and infinite worth. It encourages us to embrace our light, to nurture the potential within, and to remember that in the eyes of the divine, we are all precious, capable of growth and deserving of love.
When the light of God is found to shine on a person it changes that soul.
The narrative of this artwork is to show that God can see the value in each of us and that light can make a person blossom like a flower. Jesus spent time with the down-trodden who often felt less worthy and showed them they are the children of God- he could see the beauty in each of them and each of us.
In this artwork, the lily's path and the child's learning merge into a single narrative of hope and illumination. It is a visual ode to the beauty that blossoms when we are seen for who we truly are and reminded that within us is a light that is eternal.
To parents:
Jesus might as well also be sharing a lesson about parenting. It’s messy. We mess up as parents and get things wrong. The chaotic moments of screaming kids or a hundred messes a day at spilled spaghetti, chocolate hand prints thoughtlessly smeared on the back of a couch, or tipped juice boxes onto the carpet can bring any parent to the brink of twitching eyes, flared nostrils, and raised voices.
But endure them a bit longer and show patience when stormy days rage. The flowers are growing.
From what may seem like chaos springs forth beauty.
