Mary Magdalene was a prominent figure in the life and ministry of Jesus.
Her name is mentioned 12 times in the Gospels, more than most of the apostles.
Her name, “Magdala” means ‘tower’ or ‘castle’.
Her name is one of the few mentioned among the recordings of Jesus’ healings.
Woman of strong faith and unwavering loyalty.
Healing that took place in her life on account of His miraculous presence inspired the rededication of her life to follow Jesus to his burial.
Mary’s unequivocal will to be close to Christ and serve Him in any way she could became how she lived her life.
She knew she would not have a life if not for Him.
What mary lived daily is the faith we all strive to achieve.
She was the first person to see the resurrected Christ.
She was among the women who accompanied and aided Jesus in Galilee (Luke 8:1-2), and all four canonical Gospels attest that she witnessed Jesus’ crucifixion and burial; John 19:25-26 notes she stood by the cross, near Mary the mother of Jesus.
Having seen where Jesus was buried (Mark 15:47), she went with two other women on Easter morning to the tomb to amount the corpse.
She was instructed to go tell the apostles that he is risen.
“Jesus traveled…from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of hte kingdom of God.
The twelve were with him, and also…women… Mary called Magdalene…Joana… [and] Susanna… and many others.”
Women in Jewish society did not typically carry important roles, which makes their involvement in Jesus’ ministry more radical than normal for the time they lived in.
In every stage of His steps on earth, Jesus was unafraid to challenge tradition or culture.
One thing is certain: this woman held a special place in the story of Christianity and was placed there by God.
Mary’s actions perhaps spoke the loudest, supporting Jesus’ ministry with all she had to give.
On their unwavering presence**: "It was most astounding that these women, when all but one of the apostles had fled in despair, could have been so brave and so loyal. They never lost faith; they never gave up"
At a time when Jewish law forbade women’s account to be authoritative, Jesus told her to give the account of Him.
